"Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University" was established on 2nd October, 1972, by an act of State Legislature. Rightly named after the ardent lover of Science and Technology, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, the University was established with the noble objectives of strengthening and improving the standards of Technological Education and making it relevant to the rural and industrial development of the country. Technological advancements and infrastructure facilitates determine the progress and prosperity of a nation. This is very much true in case of India, endowed with huge population growing at a rapid pace and vast natural resources largely remaining unexploited. Realizing that promotion of technical education was the imperative need of the hour, "JAWAHARLAL NEHRU TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY", the first technological university of India - was established in Andhra Pradesh with head quarters at Hyderabad. The singular objective by the way of emphasis on training & research in engineering and applied sciences. On its formation, the Government Engineering Colleges at Anantapur, Kakinada and Hyderabad, along with the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture at Hyderabad, became its Constituent Colleges. The back bone of the oldest Engineering Colleges of South India.

The University has 186 Self Supporting Engineering, 18 Pharmacy and 2  Architecture Colleges as associated Under Graduate Course (B.TECH) Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Printing Technology. The University was established with the noble objectives of strengthening and improving the standards of Technological Education and making it relevant to the rural and industrial development of the country. Technological advancements and infrastructure facilitates determine the progress and prosperity of a nation.

Functions of ASC

  1. Set up a documentation centre cum library for reference and source materials necessary for orientation courses.
  2. Produce specially designed materials required for effective implementation of the orientation courses.
  3. Monitor the various components and stages of the orientation courses.
  4. Evaluate the effectiveness of the orientation courses.
  5. Organize Refresher Courses for serving teachers.
  6. Organize orientation programmes for Heads of Departments, Principals, Deans and other decision makers to familiarize them with the philosophy of orientation, in order to enable these senior educational administrators to understand their new role as supervisors, and to facilitate the reform in higher education through appropriate modification of the management systems at various levels.

 This is very much true in case of India, endowed with huge population growing at a rapid pace and vast natural resources largely remaining unexploited. Realizing that promotion of technical education was the imperative need of the hour. The national policy on education 1986 (NPE) in its programme of action makes a pointed reference to the crucial link between teacher motivation and quality of education.

The NPE recognizes the need for improving the status of the teacher and proposes to provide opportunities for Professional and career development so that teachers can fulfill their role and responsibilities within the educational system. It is proposed to enhance the motivation of teachers through systematic orientation in specific subjects, techniques and methodologies.
