The historic town of Vellore in India’s southernmost state, Tamil Nadu, has long been known for its magnificent fort and ancient temple, renowned hospital and medical college, Parry’s factories and the vast industrial estate in nearby Ranipet. A new landmark is the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), known for its international standard of technical education and research facilities..
Vellore Institute of Technology is fully conscious of the importance of collaborative efforts, both with other academic institutions as well as with leading industries. MoUs have been signed with leading universities and institutions in Germany, Australia, UK, Canada, Kenya, Finland, France, Spain, Rwanda, Burundi, Bhutan & Japan as well as in India, to develop joint courses of international standards to promote research in areas of mutual interest and facilitate exchange of faculty student and knowledge based resources. The highlights of the MoUs are:
- Exchange of faculty in specified areas.
Postgraduate twinning programmes.
- Joint R&D projects in specific areas of interest.
As part of its programme to give students and faculty a wider exposure to scientific and technological developments in the world many summer and winter school programmes, Conferences, workshops and lectures are organized at VIT with visiting delegations and faculty from around the world participation of teams from Germany, USA, UK, Australia, Rwanda and Japan. Interaction between Industry and the Institute is given top priority. Hands-on experience of business and industrial realities is regularly provided through relevant projects, and vital aspects of entrepreneurship are nurtured by the Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP). The Ministry for Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES) – 10 kw Solar Dish Stirling Engine System and a Department of Science and Technology (DST) – Technology Business Incubator has been established.

- A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum average of 60% of marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM/PCB)
- A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with 50% average marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology(PCM/PCB) for
- Candidates belonging to SC/ST
- Students hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and from the North Easten States of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh
- Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics(PCM) candidates are eligible for all the programmes
- Physics, Chemistry & Biology(PCB) candidates are eligible only for B.Tech. Bioinformatcics & Biotechnology programmes
- Candidates appearing for the 10+2 examination in March/April 2007 are also eligible.
